The goals of the Kids In Distress (KID) Prevention Programs are to preserve families through a strength-based approach that alleviates stress and focuses on building a natural support system within the home and community; to improve economic self sufficiency; discourage corporal punishment and other forms of violence; and help families access healthcare, childcare, job training and family planning services.
Program Services are available to families on a voluntary basis as well as through referrals from ChildNet, The 17th Judicial Circuit, Broward Sheriff’s Office, Broward County Schools In Broward County and Department of Children and Families and Child Protective Service Units in Palm Beach County.
Eligibility criteria may include one or more of the following:
• Neglect
• Family violence
• Parent-child conflict
• Truancy/poor academic performance
• Financial distress
• Alcohol or substance abuse
• Mental health problems
• Health/medical issues
• Teen parents
